Man plays Q*bert for more than 80 hours, breaks 30-year-old record

Q*bert qbert_630is having something of a renaissance these days. After playing a pivotal role in last year’s game-friendly film Wreck-It Ralph, the big nosed video game icon is at the center of a pair of new video game records.

George Leutz has broken the reigning Q*bert high score, a record that stood for 30 years, by playing the classic coin-op for nearly 85 consecutive hours. He pressed play right before noon on February 14 and didn’t finish playing until 12:38am on February 18th.

Who’s Who in Wreck It Ralph

The video game generation is about to get its own big screen love letter.

On Nov. 2, Disney will release “Wreck-It Ralph,” the story of an arcade video game villain who tries to turn things around and become a hero. It’s getting plenty of buzz for its playful premise, but in gaming circles, the film is better known as “that movie with more gaming cameos than you can shake a stick at.”

Unbeatable? Q*bert world record survives another assault

Twenty-eight years ago, Rob Gerhardt set a high score of 33 million in a single game of Q*bert. And while countless gamers have set their sights on topping that in the following decades, they’ve all fallen short.

The latest attempt came this weekend, when one gamer spent 59 hours playing the platform jumper, but still fell far short, racking up a total of just 28 million.
