Amazon lights the Fire

The Kindle Fire is on the way to customers – and with it, Amazon’s hoping to revolutionize the tablet business.

The $199 entertainment-focused device is actually shipping a day earlier than planned, as Amazon looks to build on the substantial buzz the Kindle Fire has generated since it was first announced. The company also plans to ship the Kindle Touch and Kindle Touch 3G eReaders tomorrow – six days ahead of schedule.

Amazon unveils iPad competitor

Amazon has declared war against Apple — and a few other companies — announcing a slew of new products at a New York press event Wednesday morning.

As expected, the online retail giant has unveiled plans to release a tablet computer, called Amazon Kindle Fire. The 7-inch device will cost just $199, a price point that’s likely to make it a hot holiday gift item. Shipments are scheduled to begin Nov. 15.
