Sony’s turnaround taking longer than expected and large losses in the foreseeable future, executives at Sony are slashing their own salaries to appease angry investors.
President and CEO Kaz Hirai and other Sony execs will take a 50 percent pay cut in the coming year, and will not receive any bonuses.
Kazuo Hirai, 
the one time leader of Sony’s PlayStation division and now Executive Deputy President, could have another promotion looming in the near future.
Japanese business paper Nikkei reports Hirai will be promoted to president as early as April. Sir Howard Stringer will remain chairman and CEO of the company.
Sony’s rearranging the executive 
structure of its PlayStation branch. Kaz Hirai, who holds the title of president and CEO, is stepping away from the group to widen his focus on the company as a whole.
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe chief Andrew House will take over those roles. (Hirai will remain involved as chairman of the group.) The switch takes place Sept. 1.
After being down for some 24 days, the 
PlayStation Network began welcoming players back to the game over the weekend.
Sony released a mandatory system software update Saturday night, adding new layers of security and forcing users to change their passwords after suffering one of the largest security breaches on record. Users are once again able to play multiplayer games, access their friends lists and use third-party services such as Netflix and Hulu Plus.
With the PlayStation Network up and running 
once again, gamers jonesing for some “Call of Duty: Black Ops” multiplayer action or the chance to truly break in their copy of “Socom 4” are finally able to scratch that itch.
But the relaunch of the system is only a partial one – and there are still plenty of questions floating around about what’s next. Here’s where things stand:
Sony is stopping short of making direct 
accusations, but pointed an accusatory finger at the collective group of hackers who go by ‘Anonymous’.
The company, in a letter written to the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade, said it does not yet know who was behind the attack, but it had found a file planted on the server of Sony Online Entertainment named “Anonymous”. (SOE just yesterday announced it had discovered hackers had accessed and stolen information from 25 million accounts.)
