Warner buys Flixster

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is expanding its digital rollout, today announcing an agreement to buy the popular Flixster and Rotten Tomatoes websites.

The deal, which encompasses both sites, is part of Warner’s ongoing studio-agnostic initiative to grow digital content ownership. Both sites will continue to operate independently.

Warner’s online on-demand arm to distribute select Sony films

Sony is leveraging Warner Bros.’s online distribution arm to build the audience for some of its unheralded classics.

Starting today, the Warner Archive Collection will add 150 on-demand titles from the Sony catalog, including “Genghis Khan,” “A Song To Remember” and “A Study In Terror”.

WB rolls out ‘Inception,’ ‘Dark Knight’ apps

Warner Bros. is looking to use Apple’s app store to boost legit movie downloads.

The studio announced plans Wednesday to roll out “App editions” of “Inception” and “The Dark Knight” for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. The free app gives fans of the film an extended preview of the films and film extras in an effort to persuade them to buy the electronic version, which can be downloaded or streamed via an in-app purchase.

“Mortal Kombat” goes live-action – again

Another old-school video game is getting the live action treatment – but in a different way than its peers.

While Universal is trying to bring “Asteroids” to the big screen and Namco is shopping a 3D series AND reality series revolving around Pac-Man, Warner Premiere has announced plans to create a series of live action digital shorts around “Mortal Kombat”.
