Hands-on with Valve’s Steam Machine

Consoles, steam-machine-hands-onbeware: this year, the PC is making a push for the living room. And Valve Software is leading the charge.

Last year Valve announced the Steam Machine, a system designed to let people play games traditionally locked on PC monitors in the comfort of their living rooms. The company showed a bit more of its hand at CES 2014, announcing 13 partners who will be creating Steam Machine hardware and giving press some hands-on time with the controller.

Sony takes early console war lead with 4.2 million PS4 systems sold in 2013

Not ps4-4-millionso fast, Microsoft.

During a keynote speech at the CES Show in Las Vegas, Sony Computer Entertainment President and Group CEO Andrew House, announced Tuesday that the company has sold through 4.2 million PlayStation 4 units worldwide as of December 28, 2013.

Nintendo ordered to pay portion of every 3DS sold to another company

The 3ds-royalty3DS, currently Nintendo’s best-selling piece of hardware, is about to be a bit less profitable.

U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff has ordered the company to pay 1.82 percent of the wholesale price of each 3DS it sells moving forward to a company called Tomita, after Nintendo was found to be using patented camera technology without permission.

2014 starts with multiple attacks on gaming sites

The steam-ddosNew Year is off to a lousy start for some of the gaming industry’s largest digital distribution sites.

Valve’s Steam, EA’s Origin, and Blizzard’s Battle.net were the target of distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks Thursday night, which overloaded servers and took the sites offline. All three have adjusted their firewalls and are back online at this point.

Last year, the 37-year-old teacher played Ubisoft’s Just Dance 4 for 49 hours, 3 minutes and 22 seconds without stopping to throw up. That marathon play/dance session turned her into a record holder.
