Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution 2 coming to iOS

Civilization: CivRev2Beyond Earth isn’t the only entry in the time-sucking franchise coming out this year.

Sid Meier’s Civilization Revolution 2 is on its way to iOS devices on July 2 and Android devices soon thereafter. The sequel to the 2009 hit game is more than just a double shot of Civ for fans, though. It could also be seen as a worrisome sign to console makers.

Oct. 9: The biggest gaming day of 2012

The big guns of the 2012 holiday season are still in their holsters — and will remain there for several more weeks. But we’re calling it right now: Today, Tuesday Oct. 9, is the biggest gaming day of the year.

Sure, Black Ops II and Halo 4 will sell more copies, but in terms of sheer quality, you’re not going to see a day like today for a long, long time.Of course, an embarrassment of riches comes with its own set of problems. Short of quitting your job and cutting ties with the people you love, there’s no way for you to consume all of this gaming goodness at once. That’s a cross you’re going to have to bear, though.

‘CIV’ studio lays off 20

Firaxis Studios, the home of video game legend Sid Meier and the developer of the forthcoming title “Civilization V,” is the latest game maker to face significant staff cuts.

The studio on Wednesday laid off 20 developers as part of what parent company Take Two Interactive Software calls a “realignment of development resources at the studio.”

“Civilization” studio lays off 20

Significant staff cuts have hit Firaxis Studios, the home of gaming legend Sid Meier and developer of the forthcoming “Civilization V”. The studio has laid off 20 developers as part of what parent company Take Two Interactive Software calls a “realignment of development resources at the studio”. 

That works out to roughly 15 percent of the company’s employees, if recent staffing estimates are correct. The company says the layoffs will not affect ongoing development of “Civ 5” or the upcoming “Civ” Facebook game.
