Ask 
a gamer—or an investor—in the U.S. to name the largest video game publishers and you’ll probably get a list of the usual suspects.
Certainly, companies such as Activision, Electronic Arts, Take-Two Interactive Software and Ubisoft are worthy of mention, but odds are the name Wargaming.net isn’t on anyone’s list.
The 
recent announcement by Blizzard Entertainment that it would be giving its next game away for free might have startled some investors.
Blizzard, after all, is the talent behind some of the industry’s biggest powerhouses, including “World of Warcraft” and “Diablo,” and has generated billions of dollars for parent Activision. But the seemingly sudden burst of generosity could turn out to be one of developer’s most savvy ideas to date.
Microtransactions 
can be a lucrative source of income for game publishers, though they’re largely limited to free-to-play games and mobile apps right now.
Electronic Arts has a broader vision for the concept, however, and it’s not exactly thrilling gamers.
