MLB resurrects video game classic R.B.I. Baseball

The rbi-baseball-14gaming world thought it had said R.I.P. to R.B.I. Baseball in 1995, but the long-dormant sports franchise is coming off of the bench.

Major League Baseball has revealed plans to bring back the series that debuted on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1986. In a succinct announcement, MLB Advanced Media said it would be bringing R.B.I. to “current- and next-generation consoles and smartphones and tablets.” The league didn’t offer any additional details.

Call of Duty: Ghosts expansion to feature ‘Halloween’ boogie man

Usually cod-michael-myerswhen the film and video game worlds collide, it’s a messy affair. The latest run-in, though, is just plain weird.

Activision has unveiled Onslaught, the first downloadable expansion pack for Call of Duty: Ghosts. And in a twist straight out of a B-movie script, the game’s special guest star is none other than Michael Myers, the unstoppable serial killer from the ‘Halloween’ horror movies.

EA brings offline mode to SimCity ten months late

Nearly simcity-offline-modea year after a disastrous launch plagued with server woes and bitter player complaints, the troubled SimCity is finally getting an offline mode.

EA announced the change Monday, saying developer Maxis is “in the late stages” of developing the mode. The company did not give an estimate of when offline play would be available, saying it plans extensive testing before doing so.

Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox One update will target social features

Hands-on with Valve’s Steam Machine

Consoles, steam-machine-hands-onbeware: this year, the PC is making a push for the living room. And Valve Software is leading the charge.

Last year Valve announced the Steam Machine, a system designed to let people play games traditionally locked on PC monitors in the comfort of their living rooms. The company showed a bit more of its hand at CES 2014, announcing 13 partners who will be creating Steam Machine hardware and giving press some hands-on time with the controller.

Sony takes early console war lead with 4.2 million PS4 systems sold in 2013

During a keynote speech at the CES Show in Las Vegas, Sony Computer Entertainment President and Group CEO Andrew House, announced Tuesday that the company has sold through 4.2 million PlayStation 4 units worldwide as of December 28, 2013.

2014 starts with multiple attacks on gaming sites

The steam-ddosNew Year is off to a lousy start for some of the gaming industry’s largest digital distribution sites.

Valve’s Steam, EA’s Origin, and Blizzard’s Battle.net were the target of distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks Thursday night, which overloaded servers and took the sites offline. All three have adjusted their firewalls and are back online at this point.

Last year, the 37-year-old teacher played Ubisoft’s Just Dance 4 for 49 hours, 3 minutes and 22 seconds without stopping to throw up. That marathon play/dance session turned her into a record holder.
