L.A. Noire developer struggles to stay alive

L.A. Noire developer Team Bondi might have created one of the most critically-acclaimed titles of the year, but now it’s a company fighting for its life.

Just three months after releasing its hit game, the Australian-based studio has been placed into administration, a financial condition that’s analogous to Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the United States. The protection gives the company time to attempt to regain solvency and reorganize by selling off assets and likely laying off staff.

May Video Game Sales Likely to Be Weak

After spending a week looking into the future, the video game industry must once more face the reality of the present.

May sales figures are expected to be announced after the market closes Monday – and they’re not likely to add any sort of boost to the goodwill that often accompanies the E3 trade show. Analysts expect sales, at best, to be flat compared to last year.

L.A. Noire taps acclaimed thriller writers for book

L.A. Noire may be a video game, but it sure does have its toes in a lot of ponds.

One week after being showcased at the Tribeca Film Festival, the game is exploring the literary world, gathering a collection of noted crime novelists to contribute short stories set in the game’s universe for an eBook that will come out next month.

L.A. Noire to be featured at Tribeca Film Fest

Rockstar Games has been edging towards a Hollywood model for quite some time now, but the film community is finally taking notice.

The Tribeca Film Festival will present a one-hour gameplay session of “L.A. Noire” at this year’s event, followed by a question and answer session. Scheduled to take place April 25, this is the first time the festival has recognized a video game.

Not Take-Two Interactive Software, it seems. “Red Dead Redemption” continues to be a retail bonanza for the publisher and is doing so much better than expected that the company is now forecasting it will turn a profit this year. That’s the first time in recent memory that it has done so in a year that didn’t have a “Grand Theft Auto” release.
