If you want Apple’s Siri, but don’t have the money to buy an iPhone 4S, you’re pretty much out of luck as far as the original goes. There are alternatives, though, and Evi could be the best of the bunch.

iPhone brings cinematography to masses
As studios continue the transition from film to digital, the indie filmmaking community is going through a metamorphosis of its own.
The introduction of video recording options on Digital SLR cameras opened a lot of doors for budding auteurs on a budget, but advances to the camera quality of the latest iPhone could bring a flood of new offerings from people who haven’t previously been able to afford quality video equipment.
Apple misses on earnings, shares tumble
For the first time since 2004, Apple has fallen short of Wall Street’s earnings expectations.
The company reported earnings of $7.05 per share in its fourth fiscal quarter. While that represented a 54 percent gain in net income, it was still notably less than the $7.39 analysts had expected of the company. Shares fell roughly 6 percent in after-hours trading.
Surprise! Apple has another runaway hit on its hands!
While some may have grumbled that the latest iPhone didn’t have a 5 at the end of its name, that doesn’t seem to have stopped them from running out to get one.
Apple reports that opening weekend sales of the iPhone 4S have set a new record, selling more than 4 million units over its debut weekend. That’s more than double the amount the iPhone 4 sold when it hit shelves.
App Review: Find My Friends
The risks that accompany any location tracking app are present in Find My Friends, but to Apple’s credit, the company has taken several steps to mitigate risk. That said, the app is still not a wise choice for children, unless parents want to use the iPod Touch or iPhone as a tracking device for their kids.
The free app allows people to track where their friends are, but uses a permission-based system. No one can track you unless you give your consent first. (Kids, though, might let anyone track them in an effort to build a large cache of online “friends.”) It’s easy to stop broadcasting your location, but given people’s tendencies to sometimes forget simple tasks, it’s inevitable that users will sometimes inadvertently announce where they are when they would rather not. Functionality-wise, it’s not dramatically different than other location sharing services, but it does the job well and includes enough additional features (such as temporary location sharing) and controls that it might be worth checking out — if the user is age appropriate.
Apple unveils iPhone 4S
It was hardly a secret that Apple would be rolling out its next generation iPhone at a press event Tuesday, but the Cupertino-based company still managed to sneak in a few surprises.
The iPhone 4S, which will be available for pre-order on Oct. 7 and will launch Oct. 14, will look almost exactly like the current 4G model, but a number of under the hood enhancements could be noteworthy for the entertainment industry – as could the expansion of the iPhone’s retail footprint with the addition of Sprint to the carriers offering the phone.
