2011’s most cinematic game hits stores today

One of the reasons video games and Hollywood have stayed so far apart in the public eye is the gaming world’s casual regard for plot. Games, traditionally, are a series of event moments strung together by a rather threadbare plot (though you could say the same thing about some tentpole summer theatrical releases).

The “Uncharted” series is different – and the release of the game’s third installment today is a good example to non-gamers of what that part of the entertainment industry is capable of when it brings together multiple elements.

AMC, Sony team for Uncharted 3 debut

Want to play what’s likely to be this year’s biggest PlayStation 3 game on a big screen? I mean a really big screen? Get thee to the local Cineplex!

AMC and Sony have teamed up to let gamers play “Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception” in 3D and in the theater in select cities nationwide.

Post hack: Sony strikes back

In late April, there wasn’t a company in the world — inside or outside of the video game industry — that wanted to be Sony. By the end of December, though, there are likely to be several willing to switch places.

While there’s no denying that 2011 will not go down as the PlayStation’s greatest year, Sony actually seems poised to bounce back significantly from its hacker problems (and the accompanying PR disaster) by the time we’re singing Auld Lang Syne.

Sony announces PlayStation Vita

The NGP has a real name at last.

Sony, at its pre-E3 press conference Monday, announced that the next generation handheld system, which was previously codenamed NGP, would be called PlayStation Vita – and would carry a price of just $249 for the Wifi version and $299 for the 3G-enabled version. The system will hit store shelves this holiday season.
