With a new console set to be released
next year, Nintendo has cut the price of the Wii.
Beginning May 15, the system will drop from $200 to $150 and will come bundled with hit title Mario Kart along with the Wii racing wheel peripheral. At the same time, the company plans to launch a ‘greatest hits’ line of games — called Nintendo Selects — that will cost $20 instead of the usual $50.
Disruption is an enticing and 
popular buzzword these days.

Fallout fans jonesing for more time
in the wasteland are about to get their wish.
Bethesda Softworks has announced plans to roll out three new add-on packs for Fallout: New Vegas this summer. Each will come out simultaneously for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
The data breach into the PlayStation 
Network continues to worsen.
Sony announced Monday it had discovered another 24.6 million accounts had been hacked, this time in the company’s PC online gaming division. The intrusion is on top of the 77 million accounts that Sony has previously acknowledged were breached.
There’s nothing new about video rental chains
mixing video games in with the latest Harry Potter film on their shelves. The practice has historically helped supplement dwindling income from film rentals as companies like Netflix shifted the paradigm.
But now, starting in June, Redbox is getting into the game rental business — and it’s a different story than before.
Come this summer, that trip to the corner 
convenience store for a Slim Jim and a Coke will also give you the chance to check out the newest video game releases.
Redbox, whose vending machine rental kiosks revolutionized the film industry, is moving into the video game space with plans to begin offering titles at 21,000 locations starting June 17.
While the 3DS shot out of the gate at 
launch, the system lost its breath pretty quickly.
Nintendo has acknowledged that sales of its new portable gaming system have slowed down — and it’s not entirely sure why.
Just months after moving the PlayStation 
into the cell phone world, Sony is adding tablet computers to its repertoire.
The company has launched its first tablets — both of which will come equipped with the PlayStation Suite allowing owners to play first generation PlayStation games. Like the Xperia Play (aka the ‘PlayStation Phone’), the tablets use the Android operating system. They’re expected to hit store shelves this fall.
There are plenty of head-shaking remakes 
of retro games in the works (a modern-day BurgerTime? Really?), but another batch of bizarre games hearken back to equally nostalgic television shows and films. Not Citizen Kane, Casablanca and The Dick Van Dyke Show — we’re talking about pop culture staples from the 80s and 90s, of course.
