The 
PlayStation 4 is fast becoming a juggernaut.
In a statement early Tuesday, Sony announced that sales of their flagship next-gen console have topped 5.3 million units worldwide through February 8. That’s significantly ahead of schedule, as the company was predicting sales of 5 million by the end of March 2014.
The 
Last of Us ranks as one of the greatest games of the last generation and was our pick for the 2013 Game of the Year. But while the solo campaign had a very definite ending, developer Naughty Dog wasn’t quite done with it.
Enter The Last of Us: Left Behind, a long-awaited slice of new single-player content. Like the full game, it’s being warmly embraced by critics. Arriving today, the PlayStation 3 DLC currently boasts a Metacritic average of 86, with several outlets giving the expansion a perfect score.
Not 
so fast, Microsoft.
During a keynote speech at the CES Show in Las Vegas, Sony Computer Entertainment President and Group CEO Andrew House, announced Tuesday that the company has sold through 4.2 million PlayStation 4 units worldwide as of December 28, 2013.
To 
say the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are off to a strong start is the understatement of the year.
The November sales of both systems topped not only the first month of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 – but sold more units than their predecessors did in their first three to four months following their launches, according to BMO Capital Markets analyst Edward Williams.
It’s 
a dead heat between the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Microsoft says sales of its next-generation console have topped 2 million in 18 days. That’s roughly on par with the PlayStation 4, which sold 2.1 million units in 15 days.
The 
next-generation console wars are stalemated so far.
Microsoft said Wednesday that it has sold more than 2 million Xbox One units in the system’s first 18 days of availability. That comes roughly a week after Sony said it had sold 2.1 million PlayStation 4 units in the first 14 days.
That represents a total of $1.8 billion-plus in sales of console hardware in three and a half weeks.
Sony 
is asking an unspecified number of PlayStation Network customers to change their passwords after finding “irregular activity” in a routine scan of the system.
The company did not disclose how many users were affected, nor what the exact nature of the activity was.
The 
PlayStation 4 has crossed another milestone.
According to Sony, the system has sold through 2.1 million units just two weeks after hitting shelves, a record-setting worldwide mark for the PlayStation brand. That follows the launch of the next-generation console in Europe, Australasia (Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea and other neighboring islands) and Latin America.
The 
Xbox One seems to have won the first round of the latest console war.
A survey of early shoppers found that Microsoft’s next-generation console was the system of choice this Black Friday, soundly beating Sony’s PlayStation 4.
Perhaps 
realizing that a strip show and impromptu call-in program were just the tip of the iceberg, Twitch has decided to no longer allow PlayStation 4 owners to stream videos from the built-in game, The Playroom.
The innocuous free game that comes installed with every PlayStation 4 has been a haven for inappropriate content on the live streaming site in the early days of the console. Twitch decided to cut its losses quickly.
