Sony sells 5.3 million PlayStation 4 systems, extends console war lead

In a statement early Tuesday, Sony announced that sales of their flagship next-gen console have topped 5.3 million units worldwide through February 8. That’s significantly ahead of schedule, as the company was predicting sales of 5 million by the end of March 2014.

Sony takes early console war lead with 4.2 million PS4 systems sold in 2013

During a keynote speech at the CES Show in Las Vegas, Sony Computer Entertainment President and Group CEO Andrew House, announced Tuesday that the company has sold through 4.2 million PlayStation 4 units worldwide as of December 28, 2013.

PS4, Xbox One sales blow past their predecessors

To Gamers Queue For Playstation 4 Launchsay the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are off to a strong start is the understatement of the year.

The November sales of both systems topped not only the first month of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 – but sold more units than their predecessors did in their first three to four months following their launches, according to BMO Capital Markets analyst Edward Williams.

Xbox One vs. PlayStation 4 stalemated—except on eBay

The xbox onenext-generation console wars are stalemated so far.

Microsoft said Wednesday that it has sold more than 2 million Xbox One units in the system’s first 18 days of availability. That comes roughly a week after Sony said it had sold 2.1 million PlayStation 4 units in the first 14 days.

That represents a total of $1.8 billion-plus in sales of console hardware in three and a half weeks.

Sony resets some PSN passwords due to ‘irregular activity’

Sony psn-logois asking an unspecified number of PlayStation Network customers to change their passwords after finding “irregular activity” in a routine scan of the system.

The company did not disclose how many users were affected, nor what the exact nature of the activity was.

PlayStation 4 sales top 2 million units in two weeks

According to Sony, the system has sold through 2.1 million units just two weeks after hitting shelves, a record-setting worldwide mark for the PlayStation brand. That follows the launch of the next-generation console in Europe, Australasia (Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea and other neighboring islands) and Latin America.

Twitch bans streams from PS4′s The Playroom

Perhaps playroomrealizing that a strip show and impromptu call-in program were just the tip of the iceberg, Twitch has decided to no longer allow PlayStation 4 owners to stream videos from the built-in game, The Playroom.

The innocuous free game that comes installed with every PlayStation 4 has been a haven for inappropriate content on the live streaming site in the early days of the console. Twitch decided to cut its losses quickly.
