‘Diablo III’ rules May sales charts in another down month for video games

For Activision-Blizzard, hell on earth meant a cash bonanza in May. For every other video game publisher, it was just hell.

The PC/Mac blockbuster Diablo III was the month’s top selling video game — even without taking in the title’s (presumably substantial) digital sales. But demand for the long-in-development action role-playing game couldn’t prop up the industry’s sales charts.

E3′s future up in the air

It’s a tradition at the end of every E3: the Entertainment Software Association hangs a banner on the last day of the show, thanking attendees and simultaneously announcing the dates of next year’s event.

But as people limped out of the Los Angeles Convention Center last Thursday, that banner was noticeably missing.

Nintendo reveals extensive Wii U game lineup

While Microsoft cast a wide net at its E3 press conference Monday, covering entertainment and gaming options, Nintendo came to talk games — and nothing else.

As part of its ongoing rollout of the new Wii U system, the company showcased a variety of first party titles and gave a peek at some of the third party titles in the works for the system. It did not, however, give a launch date or price for the system, which is expected to be available later this year.

Nintendo reveals new Wii U controller functions

Nintendo just couldn’t wait for E3 to share some big news about the Wii U.

Scooping itself two days before its scheduled pre-show press conference, the company released a 30-minute YouTube video Sunday unveiling a revamped Wii U controller and divulging new details about its forthcoming game system.

Gritty new ‘Star Wars 1313′ has fans buzzing

LucasArts is turning to the Dark Side for its next Star Wars game.

Not the Dark Side of the Force, mind you. It’s done that several times already. Nope, this time the publisher is hoping to explore a darker, more mature side of the sci-fi universe in a new game called Star Wars 1313.

Activision, Infinity Ward founders settle lawsuit

What was threatening to be one of the nastiest legal battles in the history of the video game industry has ended peacefully.

Game publisher Activision and the founders of Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward, Jason West and Vince Zampella, have settled their legal differences at the very last minute. The case was expected to go to trial tomorrow.

New ‘Gears of War’ game confirmed

Less than nine months after Gears of War 3 hit store shelves, the next installment of the series is set to make its debut.

Microsoft and Epic Games will formally reveal the next Gears of War on Monday, June 4th, during Microsoft’s annual E3 press conference. The big question is: What system is it for?

‘Doom 3′ is coming back, playable with head-mounted display

Everything old is new again — even hell demons.

Eight years after its initial release, the first-person scarefest Doom 3 is about to hit store shelves again. Bethesda Softworks has announced the Doom 3 BFG Edition — a remastered version of the horror/shooter that includes all of the previously released expansions as well as seven new levels.
