But when it comes to monetizing that digital content, the adult industry has fallen behind. While Apple, Netflix and other services were able to persuade customers to pay for songs and programming that were once regularly stolen, porn companies have seen their industry spiral, devastated by piracy.

After rough 2013, porn studios look for a better year

2013 Hirshcouldn’t have gone much worse for the porn industry.

The DVD business, once the lifeblood of adult film producers, dwindled even further. Legal challenges over mandatory condom laws continued to dog the industry. And porn companies were forced to shut down production three times after four performers tested positive for HIV.

Call of Duty: Ghosts expansion to feature ‘Halloween’ boogie man

Activision has unveiled Onslaught, the first downloadable expansion pack for Call of Duty: Ghosts. And in a twist straight out of a B-movie script, the game’s special guest star is none other than Michael Myers, the unstoppable serial killer from the ‘Halloween’ horror movies.

Brendan Iribe, CEO of Oculus, notes that – as a hardware manufacturer – his business has no say in what software companies will charge for Oculus-enhanced games, but admits he would not be surprised to see them come at a premium price.

EA brings offline mode to SimCity ten months late

Nearly simcity-offline-modea year after a disastrous launch plagued with server woes and bitter player complaints, the troubled SimCity is finally getting an offline mode.

EA announced the change Monday, saying developer Maxis is “in the late stages” of developing the mode. The company did not give an estimate of when offline play would be available, saying it plans extensive testing before doing so.

Variety’s Breakthrough of the Year Awards Rocks Vegas

CES Janelle Monaemight be winding down, but it’s going out with a star-studded bang Thursday at Variety’s Breakthough of the Year Awards.

Held Thursday evening at the Las Vegas Hilton, the ceremony recognized a select group of rising stars in entertainment and technology. Hosted by “America’s Got Talent’s” Nick Cannon, the event was held in partnership with the Consumer Electronics Association.
