The iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch might have some great gaming experiences, but they’re all fairly sedentary, unless you consider pulling the Angry Bird slingshot a cardio workout (in which case, we salute your level of sluggishness).

Wii sales nosedive

While December was a grim month overall for the video game industry, it was particularly brutal for Nintendo. Wii hardware sales were down a whopping 55 percent compared to a year ago, a clear sign that interest in the once-hot console has dried up.

All of the major consoles saw sales declines last month, but they were muted compared to Nintendo’s drop. The Xbox 360 was off 8 percent and the PlayStation 3 saw sales fall 22 percent.

Max Payne 3 delayed – again. Take-Two earnings to suffer

The oft-delayed Max Payne 3 has hit another roadblock and been pushed back again – and the delay is going to push publisher Take-Two Interactive Software into the red.

The company’s Rockstar Games division announced this morning that the game, originally set to launch this March, would now not bow before May. That marks the fourth delay, if you’re keeping score at home.

Analysis: THQ’s financial troubles may get worse before they get better

It may be the industry’s fourth-largest third-party publisher, but with financial woes and no inspiring product schedule to alleviate them, THQ could be facing a possible NASDAQ delisting.

CES: ePawn’s Arena a bit of Skylanders, a bit of board gaming

Activision proved there was a market for small, real-world items interacting with a virtual environment with its toy-based video game Skylanders. Now a French technology company is hoping to expand on that idea.

ePawn is demonstrating a new technology — called the Arena — at this week’s Las Vegas-based Consumer Electronics Show, which it hopes to ship to retail by this holiday. And it’s something of a doozy.
